For more information on the details of these benefits, you can speak to the hiring representative at the interview stage.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”What are the minimum requirements I need to work in the field?” open=”no”]
- Eligible to work in Canada
- At least 18 years old
- Minimum Class 5 driver’s license – Note: Applicants with GDL (Graduated Driver’s License) status are not permitted to operate commercial vehicles. Only applicants with a clean, valid driver’s license will be considered.

[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”Where can I take First Aid/H2S and what does it cost?” open=”no”]
You will be able to find First Aid/H2S Alive courses available in most towns and cities across Canada. For:
- Standard First Aid: There are many providers and St. John Ambulance is one of the main ones. Costs range per provider and the majority of the courses are one day with an approximate cost of $150.00
- H2S Alive: You can take a one day course through any Energy Safety Canada location (formerly Enform). The cost of the course is approximately $140.00
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”How do I apply?” open=”no”]
You can either fill out an online application or visit one of our offices.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”How do I get to work and where will I live?” open=”no”]
Our high-profile clients have rigs all over Alberta, but often the work is in and around our facility locations. You may be asked to relocate and live in hard-to-recruit areas. Many of our rigs do not work out of town and the crew travels home every night. Living allowance is generally not paid to workers who are required to live local to where the rig works.
High Arctic does not pay for your relocation costs if you move from elsewhere in Canada. Be sure to research the cost of living in the Western provinces before you relocate to plan for your financial needs. You will need enough money to support yourself for before you receive your first pay cheque. Our field employees are paid bi-weekly.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”What do I need for gear and how much will it cost?” open=”no”]
Complete clothing needs differ for each area of business and will be discussed in-depth at the interview stage with our team.
We supply:
- Coveralls
- ANSI Approved Hard Hat
- Approved Gloves
- Safety Glasses
You supply:
Steel Toed Boots (As a field employee, you will be eligible to receive a reimbursement of up to $150 per year after 6 months of employment)
You will also need to wear clothes under your coveralls. We recommend layers of cotton blend sweat pants, sweatshirts and sweaters in combination with long underwear and t-shirts. Wool socks are also recommended. Absolutely no hooded sweatshirts or polyester clothing can be worn on any worksites.
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”What kind of training will I receive and does the Company pay for it?” open=”no”]
All the training related to your position will be paid for by the Company, other than First Aid or H2S, but you will be required to stay for 12 months after the course has completed otherwise all expenses will be recovered. We will also pay the time you take to attend a training session (at a specified training rate).
[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”What is “Spring Break Up” and how does it affect me?” open=”no”]
Spring break up is when the rigs cannot move to the next work site because road bans are in place. Until road bans are lifted, the rig is shut down and the crews are sent home.
Spring break up can last anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months, depending on weather and activity levels. It can start as early as the end of February and continue until the beginning of June.
High Arctic recognizes the financial hardship during this time and that steady work is important to our employees. While our goal is to provide consistent work, the nature of our industry can present challenges in achieving this goal. Our Steady Work and Top Up Programs are an incentive that allows our employees to earn the minimum level of income during a time where they would otherwise be looking for other work. More details will be provided during the interview stage.
